DHSECT

The Diamond Harbour School Education Charitable Trust (DHSECT) was established in 2018 to provide educational opportunities for children at Diamond Harbour School both now and into the future.
The aim of the Trust is to help fund projects, beneficial to all local school children, that are not currently affordable within the school budget provided by the Ministry of Education.
The trustees recognise that fundraising is challenging, and can take educators’ time away from the core business of educating our young people. Tim Coop, one of the founding trustees says, “Ministry of Education funding for schools is impacted by the socio-economic status of the surrounding area. As such, the funding Diamond Harbour School receives is lower than many other schools and so we are dependant on fundraising income.”

The Trust’s activities involve seeking sponsorship, partnering with businesses, encouraging donations and endowments and supporting the school with grant applications. Organising fundraising events and activities. Over the last 6 years, the Trust has achieved some wonderful targets and results thanks to local businesses and community generosity.

Since 2020 the trust has funded over $70,000 worth of projects that have benefited the children of the Diamond Harbour School community, which is a wonderful achievement.

Some of the projects funded by the Trust include:

• Teacher professional development courses
• Chemistry sets for intermediate students
• Library upgrade thanks to an anonymous donor
• Novel reading sets
• Robotics
• Media Hub – Special thanks to our local farmers and Tim Dunningham!
• Garden to Table
• Swimming pool – Solar panels & Robotic Cleaner
• Youth Worker – This is a partnership between the school, DHSECT and the Diamond Harbour Youth and Community Trust. Anna is a Youth Worker who will be working within the school for 10 hours each week.
• Extension Programmes
• Literacy resources and training
• DHSECT Community Cup for pupil involvement and contribution to the community
• School bike track & maintenance
• Line marked court games
• New basketball hoops and multi-use court line markings and uniforms

Are you keen to help?

The school has a long “wish list” of resources to ensure it is able to provide all the children with the opportunities they deserve. These requests have come from the children themselves, the teachers and parents alike. Please feel free to contact one of the trustees if you are keen on supporting us.
It goes without saying, the Trust will need support from the school community. It needs the community to assist by sharing their ideas and connections – it might be a business you know that has a philosophy of giving back to the community, the possibility of a grant or scholarship or you may have a fundraising idea.
