From The Principal
Tena koutou ngā whānau, ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa,
Welcome back to Term 3. We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday break. It’s been lovely to see our ākonga return refreshed and ready for the term ahead.
To wrap up Term 2, we held our Matariki Night Mākete—a fantastic evening full of community spirit and creativity. A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event. Our ākonga especially enjoyed calculating their profits the next day, linking directly to their learning in Financial Literacy.
Over the break, I had the opportunity to attend a three-day conference in Auckland focused on neurodiversity and specific learning difficulties. It was a valuable experience—affirming the great work already happening at our school and offering fresh insights, especially around the latest research in this space.
Mid-year reports are now available and have been assessed largely in alignment with the refreshed curriculum. A great deal of time and care goes into preparing these, so we encourage you to read them closely. You’ll be able to discuss any points during our upcoming Learning Conferences on Monday, 28 July. Please book your time via Hero, or pop in and see Gabe in the office if you need help.
Looking ahead, we have Board elections in September. This is a fantastic opportunity for those interested in school governance to get involved and help shape the future of our kura. If you’re curious or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to contact the office.
Have a fabulous couple of weeks,

Patiki's Maths Riddle
Molly, Indie and Maddie have a great maths riddle they would love to share.
Follow along and see if you come up with the same answer
Here's how the trick works:
- Ask your partner to choose a number between 2 and 8.
- Then multiply your number by 9.
- Add the two digits of your number together.
- Subtract 5 from the sum.
- The resulting number is then associated with a letter of the alphabet (1=A, 2=B, etc.).
- Ask your partner to think of a country that starts with that letter.
- Then ask them to think of an animal starting with the last letter of the country.
- Finally, ask them to think of a fruit starting with the last letter of the animal.
Molly, Indie and Maddie's answers will be at the bottom of the section - What's coming up at Diamond Harbour School.

Value Token Rewards
This term, we’re making our School Value Tokens even more exciting.
When students earn a Value Token for demonstrating our school values, they’ll have the opportunity to vote on a reward they'd like to see happen.
-
There will be three/four reward options available, all of which have been chosen by the students.
-
Each time you earn a Value Token, you’ll drop it in the box next to the reward you’d love to see happen.
-
The reward with the most tokens will be the winning one.
It’s your chance to have a say in what the reward will be, so keep earning those tokens and stay tuned for the results.

Introducing James & Ashleigh
After The Bell Adventures
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We’re excited to welcome you and your child(ren) to After The Bell Adventures for another great term!
We want to assure you that the setup will remain exactly the same as it was under Ursi’s care—no changes to the programme, pricing, or structure. We’re committed to continuing the same great service your children are used to.
A little about us: We’re a local family and have lived in the bay for six years. Our son Liam attends the local kindy and will be starting at Diamond Harbour School next year. James will be the primary caregiver running the programme, with Ashleigh available as backup support when needed.
James is especially looking forward to lots of active play, and we’ll also be offering crafty activities and keeping popular favourites like the Friday movie!
We’re really looking forward to getting to know you and your children, and to creating a fun, safe, and relaxed space after school.

Kindy News
One Mother to Another is an award-winning charity which through the simple act of gift giving, cares for and empowers parents and whānau in hospital with a sick child, as well as mothers who are going through their own health journey while juggling motherhood. They provide over 6,000 care packages a year to mums and carers across the South Island. Their aim is to comfort and support whānau in a particularly vulnerable time.
One of the values of Mātariki is atawhaitanga, showing kindness and compassion. In the spirit of atawhaitanga, this year Kindy will be collecting fun-size chocolates, such as mini Moros or mini Whitakers, to contribute to care packages provided by the charity One Mother to Another. We would love for you to contribute if you can, by donating a pack or two into the collection basket in the entrance way of kindy.
